Grocery Update

After a full week, I only made two grocery stops this week.

On Tuesday, I went to BJs.  I don’t usually go twice this close together, but I had an appointment nearby so I decided to stop in.  The grapes and apples are for soccer snacks.

On Thursday I went to Stop & Shop.  The bananas are also for soccer snacks.  (We’re on duty for two games this week.)

This was a restocking week.  On Monday I went to Wegman’s.  This was the first time we tried their grape juice and pasta sauce.  We quite liked the pasta sauce, but the grape juice was only ok.  I might buy it again if I’m otherwise out, but I’m going to stick with Welch’s.

On Tuesday I went to Shaw’s.

img_4451

I also went to Stop & Shop.  Pasta was on sale.  The bread was in seconds, but I’ll use it for French Toast sometime.

Finally, on Thursday I went to BJs.  We’re not really winding down for the move just yet.

Grocery Spending

This week was not overwhelming in the grocery department.

On Tuesday I went to Stop & Shop.  I think you can spot the post Easter sale items!

IMG_4433

Then on Thursday I sent to Wegman’s.  Turns out these protein bars were a fail – too gummy.  I tried Wegman’s brand white grape juice since they didn’t have Welch’s.  It was ok, but we’ll go back to Welch’s, purchased elsewhere.  The other items are common for us.

This is the last month where we have a significant number of family dinners for a while.  Soccer kicks off next month, and then baseball in May.  They’ll occupy our evenings, except for a short respite in late June, until mid-August.

That being said, it was a nice, low month.  I’m starting to try to eat through the fridge/freezer in preparation for moving.  And, I did well on meat with the Easter sales.  In a turn of events, I only went to Stop & Shop once all month, but it was a large bill.

March TOTAL: $843.53

  • Stop & Shop: $143.52
  • Wegman’s: $311.88
  • BJs: $251.61
  • Other: $136.52
    • Local: $10.84
    • Star Market: $107.18
    • Trader Joe’s: $13.84
    • Target: $4.66
    • Other: $0

After a few weeks without pictures, I was able to get them done again.  In the early weeks of the house being on the market, nothing could be left out even for a short while least someone call for a showing.

I went to Wegman’s on Tuesday.  I got mostly odds and ends, with a few extras like fancy cheeses and crackers.

The weather was nice enough that we decided to grill Saturday, so I went to Wegman’s again for meat.  I picked up that week’s milk and a fairly hefty dose of produce.

Grocery Spending

This month we’re starting to balance out after a few higher than normal months.  I did less stocking up, but also was able to take greater advantages of sales, particularly on meats.  One week I was able to get very close to 50% off, including a free package of cheddar cheese slices.

  • February TOTAL: $861.28
    • Stop & Shop: $227.36
    • Wegman’s: $296.21
    • BJs: $238.55
    • Other: $99.16
      • Local: $32.13
      • Star Market: $51.90
      • Trader Joe’s: $15.13
      • Target: $0
      • Other: $0

And in the spirit of continuing the budget friendly trend in March, I did no grocery shopping last week!

Grocery Update

I must have been making up for last week because I went grocery shopping what seemed like almost every day this week.

First, I went to Stop & Shop.  The beef, ice cream, and blueberries were all buy 1/get 1 free.  The bread was on clearance, but will make for good french toast.  The wrapped package is cod for dinner tonight.

IMG_4279

Then on Wednesday I went to Wegman’s.  The bag contains my free chocolate croissant; the bulk food container is dried strawberries and pineapple.  The prosciutto is to make quiche.

IMG_4282

On the way home I stopped at Stop & Shop to pick up another round of buy 1 / get 1 free ground beef and a couple of items that Wegman’s doesn’t carry.

IMG_4280

On Friday I stopped at Trader Joe’s.  I’m not there very often, but my boys prefer their fruit bars and yogurt sticks.  The coconut and carrots were purchased because that was where I was.  Now that I’ve used it though, I didn’t like the consistency of the shredded coconut at all and so won’t buy it again.  I was making macaroons and it was crispy and harsh instead of soft and fluffy.

IMG_4283

Finally, on Saturday I went to the farm stand.  Being February, none of this is actually local.  The strawberries are wrapped as seconds, but we’ll eat them so fast it won’t actually matter.

Only one grocery trip this week, and it was to Wegman’s.  There’s a big beef roast, with some seasoning herbage.  The bulk container is dried strawberries and pineapple.  The gold lid is olive oil.  And, our 4-year-old has taken a real liking to jicama.  Otherwise, things are pretty standard stock up items.

Grocery Update

For those who weren’t paying attention, this post is backdated to fill in the time after the new baby was born.  I felt it was important for both myself and readers to have a good grocery record.  It has the numbers for me, and folks seem to find them interesting.

On Tuesday I went to Shaw’s.  I stocked up on oatmeal & pizza cheese, which I can only get there, as well as fruit cups, which were on sale plus I had coupons.

IMG_4254

I also went to Wegman’s.  We’re not back in real meal planning yet, so these items are very flexible or long term storage friendly.

IMG_4255

Saturday I went to Stop & Shop.  Lamb was on sale for Valentine’s day; yes, this is one meal’s worth.  Strawberries and butter was also on sale.  The Eggos were free after sales and coupons.

IMG_4263

Apparently I paired my shopping this week because I also went to the farm stand on Saturday.

IMG_4264

The green beans are to go with the lamb.  I caved to the raspberry begging.  None of this is local since its winter.

Grocery Update

I did a fair bit of grocery shopping this week.  I think we’re still restocking a bit.

First I went to Wegman’s.  This is, admittedly, a pretty random assortment of stuff.  I’m not sure any of it will be eaten at the same time with the possible exception of carrots and cucumber.

IMG_4246

Oddly, I made two trips to Stop & Shop.  I thought this first batch was it, but then I was informed we were out of grape juice and cheddar slices so I went back again two days later.  (I haven’t been as on top of groceries as usual of late.)  Both were on sale so, once I knew we were out, I wanted to make sure I got there before the sale ended.  Blueberries were buy 1, get 1 free so I grabbed a few of them also.  Even if we don’t eat them all, I can make blueberry muffins.

IMG_4247

IMG_4253

I also went to BJs.  In the front are ground beef for chili, and steaks for beef & broccoli stir fry.  The orange juice is for a preschool breakfast.  Everything else is pretty standard.

Grocery Spending

On the one hand, it could have been lower since I didn’t shop much or at all some weeks.  On the other hand, we’ve been home more (with more people in the house) so more eating is getting done.  I also did some restocking of things that had gotten low.  And, I bought a few things I’d far prefer to buy on sale not on sale because I haven’t been as tuned to them as usual over the past two months and we were running low.  Hopefully that aspect will straighten itself out over the next month or so.

  • December TOTAL: $1024.37
    • Stop & Shop: $234.16
    • Wegman’s: $161.13
    • BJs: $359.46
    • Other: $269.62
      • Local: $65.49
      • Star Market: $156.74
      • Trader Joe’s: $7.96
      • Target: $39.43
      • Other: $0

I think this was a pretty normal shopping week.  I still haven’t gotten back to reliable meal planning, so that will have to wait another week.  But, I have managed to keep up with the grocery pictures despite everything else going on.

I went to the farm stand and Stop & Shop on Monday.  With the now three year old in tow I did buy a few things (berries, specifically) that I wouldn’t have otherwise.  But, they all got eaten.

IMG_4231

Cheese, pasta, Oreos, and soda were on sale at Stop & Shop.  The ground beef was for shepard’s pie that night so I didn’t mind buying the marked down package.

IMG_4233

On Wednesday I went to Wegman’s.  I bought the jicama on a whim.  We’ve been reading Eating the Alphabet a bunch lately (its the example “j” with jalapeno).  Also, last week we had lunch out and ended up with a salad with jicama in it.  Turns out my four year-old is a big fan!  I may buy it again.
