I made for grocery stops last week, which is more than usual.  One was the monthly trip to BJs.  Two were to Shaw’s!  I usually only go there once every six weeks or so.  But, they’ve been very low on pizza dough when I’ve gone recently and we’ve been using more of that because of baseball season.  You may see it as one of my stops this coming week also.

On Monday, I made my first trip to Shaw’s.  I restocked on oatmeal, which was on sale.  Kraft shredded cheeses and grapes were also on sale.  The Coke was for that afternoon.  And, I got all the pizza dough balls they had.

IMG_6464

On Wednesday, I went to BJs and Stop & Shop.  Both trips were for primarily non-food items that were on sale/had coupons.  You’ll see in the menu below that the chicken nuggets are not lasting long right now.

IMG_6471

Now for Stop & Shop.  Rather than listing everything that was on sale, I’ll just say that the bananas (39¢/lb), shallot, and bagels were not on sale.

IMG_6473

Then on Friday, I tried Shaw’s again.  Two was it for pizza dough, but I did find some of the large bacon packages.

After a light week, I made many stops.  On Monday, I went to Stop & Shop and the farm stand.  At Stop & Shop, I sneaked over $50 to get double gas points.

IMG_6406

On Wednesday, I went to BJs.  Because of the time constraint of preschool pickup, its broken into three photos.

While I was over that way, I made a quick stop at Target.

IMG_6424

Then, on Friday I went to Wegman’s.  A lot of this was for the holiday weekend.

I made a few small trips this week.  Next week will be a BJs run, though, to make up for it.

On Wednesday, I went to Wegman’s.  This primarily a milk trip; and, I did some restocking.  They finally had meatballs available (this was my third time attempt) so I bought two.

IMG_6396
IMG_6398

I ran into Shaw’s right after to quickly grab a few items.  It was a rather hot day so the debate – quick stop or parking in the shade.  I opted for the quick stop being second.

IMG_6395

On Thursday, we decided to have Reuben’s for dinner so I made a quick stop and Stop & Shop for ingredients. Our go to Italian salad dressing was on sale so I grabbed two of them also.

Last week was a light grocery shopping week.  I went to Wegman’s twice and the farm stand once.

My first trip to Wegman’s was on Monday.  The bag contains shallots, which were used for dinner Monday night.  Everything else was restocking.

IMG_6349

On Friday, I went back to Wegman’s, primarily for milk.  I also got some eggs for the Mother’s Day brunch.

IMG_6369

On Saturday, I went to the farm stand for green beans as well as nice bread for Sunday’s brunch.

I had four smaller grocery trips this week.

The biggest trip was to BJ’s on Wednesday.  We were very low on both milk and bread.

IMG_6328
IMG_6329

I also went to Stop & Shop on Wednesday.  Everything was on sale plus I had a coupon for the Triscuits.

IMG_6331

On Thursday, we made a quick stop at the farm stand.

IMG_6335

Finally, on Friday I made a relatively small trip to Wegman’s.  The paper wrap is tilapia; we had fish tacos for Cinco de Mayo.  I’m glad I got jalapenos the day before as Wegman’s was out of them, again.

IMG_6339

We had a number of baseball rain outs last week.  But, since notifications didn’t usually come until the afternoon, dinners were still generally quicker items.

Monday:
Kids: Take-out pizza
Adults: Pan fried steak, potato pancake

Tuesday:
Kids: Macaroni & cheese
Adults: Homemade pizza

Wednesday:
Eggs

Thursday:
Kids: Chicken nuggets, green beans

Grocery Spending

Still bigger.  I’m coming to the conclusion that shopping at Wegman’s is more expensive than Stop & Shop.  Now, this is definitely not true for certain items.  But, it seems to be true when one considers purchases in total.  We’ll see how May goes.

  • April TOTAL: $1,205.63
    • Stop & Shop: $293.76
    • Wegman’s: $573.25
    • BJs: $231.87
    • Other: $106.75
      • Local: $0
      • Star Market: $106.75
      • Trader Joe’s: $0
      • Target: $0
      • Other: $0

I made two stops this week.  On Monday, I went to Stop & Shop.  The chips, bagels, cilantro, and shallot were not on sale.  Everything else was and I had a coupon for the fruit cups as well.

IMG_6315
IMG_6316

Then on Friday, I went to Wegman’s.  I also bought four gallons of milk that didn’t make the picture.

IMG_6326

It rained a bunch last week.  We did eat dinner together more than usually happens in baseball/soccer season.  But, dinners were still quick affairs because they often didn’t cancel practices/games until late afternoon.

Chicken and dumplings

Tuesday:
Tacos
Corn

Wednesday:
Braised pork
Mashed potatoes
Salad

Thursday:
Kids: Spaghetti & meatballs
Adults: Homemade pizza

Grocery Update & What We Ate – Week 16, 2017

I made three relatively small shopping runs this week.

On Monday, I went to Stop & Shop.  This was prompted by Wegman’s being entirely out of hamburger buns the day before (What!?!  Four day gorgeous weather weekend and they goof up their order?  Yes.  That’s what they told me.)  But, everything else, except the mushrooms, were on sale.  Lots of treats we that won’t all eat this week.  And, the chocolate bar was free!

IMG_6269

On Thursday, I went to Stop and Shop again.  The primary purpose this time was milk.  You’ll see some of the above items again since its the same sale cycle and one can only purchase one per checkout.

IMG_6300
IMG_6301

Finally, on Saturday, I went to Shaw’s for my one every 4-6 weeks visit.  I did my usual stocking up on oatmeal, pizza dough, and pizza cheese.  Bananas were on sale.  This size bacon package I can only get there.  Then I picked up some mushrooms and mini bagels because we were running low.

IMG_6314

Apart from the hamburger buns and pizza dough/cheese, I’m not sure how much of this you’ll actually see reflected in the menu.

Monday:
Hamburgers
Tater tots
Strawberries

Tuesday:
Kids: Maccaroni & cheese
Adults: Homemade pizza

Wednesday:
Shepard’s pie

Thursday:
Kids: Chicken nuggets
Adults: Homemade pizza

Friday:
Salmon
Brown rice
Broccoli
Spinach salad

Saturday:
Kids: Eggs
Adults: Homemade pizza

Sunday:
Kids: Chicken nuggets
Adults: Homemade pizza

Grocery Update & What We Ate – Week 15, 2017

It was a big shopping week – by cost & volume.  I was in need of a trip to BJ’s and it seemed better to get that done before school vacation week.

On Monday, I went to Wegman’s.  There are some perishables, and enough milk to get me to the BJ’s trip.  But, mostly this was a restocking commonly used items trip.

IMG_6230

Wednesday was BJ’s.  Here you can see the start of the transition to summer – lots of outdoor drinks (Gatorade & pineapple juice); grapes & apple slices for soccer snack; BBQ sauce and the Heinz pack (Mostly for the relish.  We use one bottle per summer, and much more than this in ketchup and mustard.).  I was low on space in the cart so I didn’t get as much milk as I could have.  But, its enough to last me until my next grocery trip.  With milk running about the same price everywhere right now, there’s less need to stock up.

IMG_6260
IMG_6262

Then, on Sunday I went to Wegman’s again.  This trip was more focused on what we’ll eat this week.

IMG_6266

You’ll see that the fast dinners are starting to take over as baseball starts to appear on the calendar.  Since there is rarely baseball on Fridays, you’ll see that baseball will not be homemade pizza night for a few weeks.

Monday:
Kids: Hot dogs
Adults: Homemade pizza

Tuesday:
Kids: Leftovers
Adults: Indian take-out

Wednesday:
Tacos
Corn

Thursday:
Spaghetti & meatballs

Friday:
Beef roast
Mashed potatoes
Carrots
Popovers

Saturday:
Kids: Chicken nuggets
Adults: Homemade pizza

Sunday:
Kids: Shrimp & broccoli
Adults: Homemade pizza

Three trips to the grocery store this week.

On Monday I went to Shaw’s for those few items only they carry.  I also got grapes which were on sale for 99¢, one box of cereal, and one package of hot dogs.

IMG_6219

Then, on Wednesday, I went to Stop and Shop for the items that only they carry.  The grape juice was buy 1, get 1 free.  The pasta, strawberries, and roast were on sale.  This cheese I can only get there.  And, we were out of pepperoni.

IMG_6224

Finally, on Sunday I stopped at Stop & Shop for two gallons of milk to tide us over until Monday when I was planning to go to Wegman’s.  I forgot, until I was there, that it was Easter week.  Since many meats were on sale I stocked up on those also; they will go in the freezer.  Cheese and potatoes were also on sale.  The frittata is for the preschool family breakfast on Wednesday.

IMG_6227

We’re entering spring sports season, also known as the season of quick/split dinners.  Unfortunately, even those dinners that weren’t fast aren’t in here as recipes yet.

Monday:
Sous vide salmon
Brown rice
Broccoli

Tuesday:
Kids: Chicken nuggets
Adults: Homemade pizza

Wednesday:
Kids: Hot dogs
Adults: Homemade pizza

Thursday:
Leg of lamb
Spinach salad
Oatmeal bread

Friday:
Kids: Ice cream social (yes, the annual ice cream for dinner event)
Adults: out (quick dinner and a movie)

Saturday:
Beef stew
Whole wheat rolls

Sunday:
Chicken tacos with avocado salad
