Last Week’s Accomplishments – Snow Gear is Gone!

I can say spring is here now, though there is still snow on the ground in places.  Here are some fairly large patches from our yard taken yesterday.

  • Registered the boys for the last round of school year activities
  • Put 3 spring soccer schedules and 1 spring baseball schedule in my calendar
  • Dealt with one more stomach sick kid
    • Did a lot of excess laundry & cleaning as a result
  • Rejoiced at the idea of being stomach bug free.
  • Prepped freezer cubes of cilantro & chicken broth
  • Divided and froze a bulk package of ground beef
  • Cleaned and put away all the snowpants
    • Note – there is STILL snow on the ground. And, it hasn’t really reached 60 yet.  But, its April so they’re going away.  Unfortunately the hats and gloves will have to wait as we still need those sometimes.
  • Cleaned and put away the snow boots.
    • It’s a little muddy still, but not too bad in most places (in our yard anyway).
  • Cleaned and put away scarves, balaclavas, ski helmets & goggles
  • Swept the driveway in an attempt to keep the remaining winter road sand out of our house
  • Went to the park! It was actually sunny and nice out one day this week.
  • Ordered some shorts for our oldest who needs a new size
  • Fixed the Minecraft pickaxe

Last Week’s Accomplishments – Winter becomes Spring

I feel like I’m coming out of a fog.  There’s the never ending (or melting) snow and the sequence of birthdays conspiring against me.  But spring is here (technically), activities are changing, and cleaning must be done.

  • Threw out 7 socks
  • Did the laundry backlog and actually put it away now that I’m convinced that the little guy isn’t getting in the closet anymore. The drawers are still an issue.
  • Got sour cream and eggs free based on other grocery purchases. The sour cream was free after a cheese purchase, which was on my list anyway.  The eggs were free after purchasing bacon, which we use a lot of.  All items were on good sales even before the free items.
  • Triggered the “you’re using too many coupons” flag on the Wegman’s register. I’m thinking this means I saved more than they anticipate, but I had no manufacturer’s coupons.  I bought sale items and used $7 in Wegman’s coupons for a total savings of $11.59 with a final spend of $21.05.  I’m not sure what would have happened if I’d actually had a bunch of coupons, but the cashier gave me no issues and confirmed all my coupons were properly used.
  • Fixed 2 books
  • Migrated three more months of this blog to WordPress
  • Took the dining room chair seats to the reupholster
    • While they were there I cleaned the frames (and the table and walls for good measure)
    • Reinstalled the seat cushions (this was not terribly hard, but much harder than removing them) after they were done
  • Dealt with three stomach sick kids (fingers crossed it doesn’t spread further)
    • Did a lot of excess laundry & cleaning as a result
  • Replaced the wiper blades on my minivan
  • Mailed the reimbursement for towing to the Roadside Assistance company that was unable to find a tow truck for us. From what I’ve read online I’m not expecting to get our money back for many months.

We’ve got the little guy better contained again (and the novelty is starting to wear off for him) so I was able to get more done.

  • Spring soccer registration for 1 child
  • Baseball clinic registration for 3 children
  • Fixed the time on the clocks/thermostats for Daylight Savings
  • Started organizing/shopping for next weekend’s party
  • Attended the 3rd grade music concert
  • Signed up for Spring parent/teacher conferences
  • Threw out 1 sock
  • Threw out 2 pairs of pants
  • Fixed 0 books – But, there is a bit of a pile that will be dealt with next week.
  • Made cupcakes for the actual birthday
  • Wrapped two presents for birthday parties (we have ours plus a number of others in this two week stretch.)

And, while I can’t really take credit for this:

  • Boston passed the single season snow mark (so it can stop snowing now thank you)

He’s Out!

It was coming eventually – our 2 year-old escaped his crib, repeatedly.  So, we decided to take the side off so its now a toddler bed.  But, this means that very little (beyond groceries, meals, and getting folks where they need to be) got done this week.  Instead, time was spent with additional baby-proofing and general sanitizing of the room so that he isn’t turning the bedroom inside out multiple times per day.  On the plus side I did clean out a bunch of stuff that I put away, threw away, or set aside to sell.

So, here’s what I got done.

  • Threw out 4 socks
  • Threw out 2 shirts
  • Fixed 2 books – Thankfully his new found freedom is resulting in less book destruction.
  • Chose fabrics to reupholster the living room sofas and dining room chairs, which desperately needs doing.

Last Week’s Accomplishments – The Books are done!

There was much less shoveling this week, thankfully.  More like maintenance.   Though, it did snow and the temperature did not rise so when it came down it had to be dealt with.

  • Threw out 1 shirt
  • Fixed 1 winter glove
  • Threw out 3 socks
  • Fixed 17 books – I am officially done with the backlog! There will be more to do as my book destroyer is still at it, but at least now we’re in maintenance mode.
  • Read my backlog of Sports Illustrated and The Economist. They’re from the start of the year, so before the Super Bowl.  Yes, I actually read them.

If it hadn’t been school vacation week, I’m sure we’d have had more snow days to reschedule.

  • Did A LOT of shoveling
  • Discarded 7 pairs of pants
  • Threw out 2 socks
  • Fixed 10 books
  • Did taxes
  • Sorted 2014 papers and shredded/filed/etc.

We’re still snowbound.  Though, there was only one snow day this week, which represents progress.

  • Did A LOT of shoveling
  • Raked the porch and front entry roofs
  • Threw out 1 sock (This has slowed down. I may have gotten through a batch that went into circulation at the same time.)
  • Fixed 6 more books
  • Coordinated valentine creation for 4 kids classroom parties
  • Attended one classroom party
  • Set up a 4y birthday party
  • Accepted invitations to two other 4y birthday parties
  • Did a lot of home cooking

With all the snow days things have gotten a bit out of hand.  But, forward progress is being made.

  • Watched the Super Bowl in its entirety (when it aired) – this is no small feat with small children who are not at all interested in football
  • Fixed 4 more books (still many to go but the pile is getting smaller)
  • Wrapped 2 presents
  • Ported ⅓ of the blog to WordPress
  • Cleaned the mudroom
  • Did A LOT of shoveling

Last Two Weeks’ Accomplishments – Little Things

≈ Comments Off on Last Two Weeks’ Accomplishments – Little Things

I’ve decided this process is working well.  But, the blizzard took precedence last week.  That being said, I feel compelled to say that the usual stuff does get done (meals, laundry, homework, etc.) even if I don’t list it here.  I’m mainly focused on the items that don’t happen all the time, and that motivate me to keep tidying up.

  • Fixed 10 more books (still many to go)
  • Threw out 7 socks with holes
  • Threw out one pair of pants with holes.
  • Replaced 1 pair of shoelaces
  • Took down 3 old curtain rods in the bathrooms. They were eyesores.  I’m not planning to replace them because I don’t like curtains in the bathrooms.

  • Put away the remaining Christmas stuff – books, DVDs, CDs, etc. – that generally stay out longer.
  • Attended our first school music concert for the year. There will be two more.
  • Wrapped 2 more presents.
  • Did A LOT of shoveling.
  • Sorted out a lot of extra trash/recycling.
